You’ll see a section on your pp&l bill called “Price to Compare” or "Energy Charges." These charges go toward your delivery of electricity and will remain the same when you switch suppliers.
Met-Ed
If you live in Met-Ed’s service area, you have options for your electricity supply. You can choose a retail supplier or stay with the utility’s default rate, known as “Price to Compare.” You may find that you save money by switching to an alternative supplier. The Arbor app scans the market and finds the best rates for you, based on your meter reading.
In addition to ensuring the quality of its electricity transmission network, Met-Ed continues to work on upgrades and maintenance efforts. This includes routine tree trimming and testing equipment to prepare for elevated summer electricity usage due to air conditioning.
The company also offers a variety of programs that help customers save money. These include appliance turn-in programs and HVAC rebates. In addition, the company takes part in community projects such as the Community Connections Program and contributes to charitable giving through the FirstEnergy Foundation. Originally formed in 1917, Met-Ed was one of the state’s leading utilities, including a major role in nuclear power with the construction of the Three Mile Island plant.
Price to Compare
Price to Compare is the portion of a utility bill that will be replaced by charges from a third party electric supplier when a customer switches. It is comprised of the cost of energy, capacity, transmission and ancillary services as well as line losses and state sales tax.
The prices for these items are determined through competitive wholesale auctions and blended together to create the generation charge, or PTC, on a utility's utility bill. Having familiarity with these prices and knowing how to calculate potential savings will allow you to make better decisions about your choice of suppliers.
In any month in which you don’t choose an EGS for your electricity supply and transmission service, Duquesne Light Company (DLC) will provide both Electric Supply Service (ESS) and Transmission Service Charges (TSC). These rates are defined in Rider No. 8 - Default Service Supply and Appendix A - Transmission Service Charges of the DLC Retail Tariff.
Alternative Suppliers
A key question is whether your suppliers are able to deliver what you need when the time comes. This is a good reason to seek out alternatives that may be able to do the job and meet your delivery expectations.
For example, if you are an importer who buys from distributors in overseas countries that supply to domestic customers, those domestic distributors may have inventory that can be delivered faster and more reliably. You could also go up the supply chain and try to buy directly from the manufacturer if you have the volume.
The Inventory Query program and the Purchase Order Requisition System can be used to define alternate suppliers for stock items. The alternate supplier information is displayed in a listview and can be queried and printed. The listview is updated when the user selects an alternative supplier and it can be cleared by selecting the default supplier again. The selection of an alternate supplier does not affect any existing Purchasing Agreements with the original supplier.
Switching
Switches are used to connect devices in a network. They offer more ports than network hubs and they can be managed or unmanaged. They are often used in LAN networks and can offer advanced features such as port aggregation, VLANs, and quality of service settings. Some switches also support Power over Ethernet (PoE) which allows them to transmit data and power over the same ethernet cable.
The main advantage of circuit switching is that it offers consistent bandwidth and channels for communication. This is important for voice calls as it reduces delay and makes them clearer.
However, this method isn’t good for data communications as it dedicates a channel to one service and this makes it difficult to use for other connections. In addition, it requires a significant amount of time to establish the connection which may result in wasted system resources. It’s also not ideal for high-speed communication as it can cause jitter and other issues.
